Newsletter 193 BNFIX PICH
July 2024
Dear all,
As we are about to close for a few days to take a break (with a team ‘on call’ always ready to assist you), we invite you to read July’s newsletter, number 193, which focuses on the second chance mechanism for individuals and a report by Foment del Treball that warns of the high cost of absenteeism for companies and the economy in general. We also remind you of four basic rules on cybersecurity in companies and that you should ask the tax authorities for ‘courtesy days’ so that they do not send you notifications during the holidays.
We also talk about the new sustainability directive and announce the BNFIX Global conference in Madrid in October.
These, and other topics, below.
Happy summer to all,
Toni Puig – a.puig@pich.bnfix.com
Partner in charge of tax area BNFIX PICH AUDITORS
Kindly remember that our opening hours during the month of August will be from 9am to 3pm.
Highlights
/ Second chance mechanism for debtors: requirements and some reflections
The second chance mechanism has quickly become an instrument for people who are unable to pay their debts to find, under judicial supervision, a way to sort them out and, if they meet certain requirements, to obtain exoneration (i.e. forgiveness) of part of their debts.
In the following circular we explain the requirements that must be met in order to make use of this mechanism and reflect on the importance of preventing and managing economic crises early on in order to minimise their effects. We also suggest reading the recently updated ‘Second Chance Guide’.
/ Cyber security: Four rules to protect yourself from cyber attacks · VIDEO (Spanish)
The worrying increase in cyber-attacks around the world, with the resulting negative effects that we are all aware of, has made cybersecurity a priority for companies.
For this reason, Jordi Carbonell, from the Work Area and IT Security for Business, explains in this video four basic rules that all companies should comply with to improve IT security and protect themselves from cyber-attacks.

/ Absenteeism at work: Detect, assess and take action
A report by Foment del Treball Nacional and The Adecco Group España presented on 11 July warns of the high cost of absenteeism for companies and for the economy in general and makes a series of proposals to the different economic agents to tackle it.
We need to detect, assess and act, taking into account the particularities of each sector and the specific circumstances of each company.
For any further information, please contact the professionals in the labour area of BNFIX PICH.
/ On holidays, ask the Tax Office for ‘courtesy’ days to avoid receiving notifications
With the arrival of the holidays, plan the days you will be away from the office so that the Tax Agency’s Enabled Electronic Address system allows you to indicate days on which the Tax Agency cannot send notifications to your electronic mailbox.
/ The new Sustainability Directive affects the whole value chain of the obliged company
The new directive on sustainability, published on 5 July in the Official Journal of the European Union, seeks to reinforce sustainable and responsible practices in the supply chains of European companies. Therefore, it also affects the entire value chain of the companies directly obliged to comply with it.

/ Cinco Días / For efficient and inclusive digitalisation
Opinion piece by our partner Valentín Pich, in his capacity as president of the General Council of Economists, in which he analyses the growing and widespread digitalisation of public administrations, a phenomenon that includes the teleworking of civil servants.
However, he considers that formulas should be explored to ensure that the increase in teleworking by public employees does not lead to a deterioration in the conditions of service to citizens.

/ TRIBUNA La Vanguardia / Shorter working hours?
The debate is in the streets because it affects us all. Is it acceptable for companies to reduce the working day without reducing wages? If we reduce the working day, will productivity increase? What is happening in other countries around us? The answers are not simple and Valentín Pich talks about this in this opinion column in La Vanguardia of 16 July, in which he argues, among other things, that it is necessary to take into account, in parallel, the productive structure and the creation of an environment that encourages economic growth if we do not want to increase the labour costs of SMEs, which are the backbone of our economy.
